First Eclipse Demo Camp in Montréal: Success!

The first Montréal Eclipse Demo Camp took place yesterday night downtown.  The event sponsored by Compuware and by the Eclipse Foundation was a great success!

Last year, me and two colleagues at Compuware (Anthony Dahanne and Christian Bourgeois) went to last two Eclipse Demo Camps in Ottawa.  We really enjoyed these events so we decided to host one in Montréal for Indigo Release.  At the beginning, we were not sure of the success the event would have, but since the beginning we wanted to have a solid and well organized event.  Today we can proudly say Mission Accomplished!.
  • 50 participants were present
  • Participants from Montréal, Québec and Ottawa!
  • 20 different companies were represented
  • 12 (great!) presentations
    • Remote provisioning of a runtime using p2 and JMS, by Anthony Dahanne
    • z/OS Team Synchronization using Eclipse's Team API, by Johnny Mongiat
    • PDE Visualization Tool for Features Dependencies, by Johnny Mongiat
    • Eclipse @ CSA (Canadian Space Agency), by Regent L'Archeveque
    • Introducing Review for Eclipse, by Alvaro Sanchez & Sebastien Dubois
    • What's new in CDT Debug, by Marc Khouzam
    • Sharing Preferences and Ericsson's p2 Installer, by Domenic Alessi
    • Kernel and User Space tracing with Eclipse, by Francois Chouinard
    • Tycho, building OSGi bundles with Maven, by Pascal Rapicault
    • Natural Language Processing for Eclipse - The Semantic Assistants, by Ninus Khamis
    • Introducing Vega, a New Open Source Web Security Platform built on Eclipse RCP, by David Mirza
    • Java7 support in Indigo (SR1), by Olivier Thomann

That Demo Camp demonstrated that Montréal had a pretty active and large Eclipse Community developing nice & creative Eclipse Based Technologies.  It was a great opportunity to enhance our local IT Community Networking and Knowledge Sharing.

De plus, l'événement était 50% en français et 50% en anglais!

The number of presentations was a bit high, but was hard to discard any of those.  Next time, maybe a full Eclipse Demo Day will be possible :-).  It could also be interesting to record these presentations.

Note that the presenters have been invited to post their slides on the Demo Camp Wiki.

Photos of the event have been published @ Photos Montreal Eclipse Demo Camp, May-2011

Thanks to the presenters for their great talks.

Thanks to Compuware and by the Eclipse Foundation for their support & contributions.

Looking forward for the next Montréal Eclipse Demo Camp (day?).
